If you've recently switched from 2.4GHz to 5GHz wifi - this is the problem! Brother printers cannot connect to 5GHz wifi, but if you ask your internet provider, they can split the combined network into two separate networks, a 2.4GHz one and a 5GHz one - then connect your printer to the 2.4GHz!! I spent far too long trying to figure this out, so I hope this saves someone the hassle.

I had updated my firmware to the latest one. After that whenever I try punching in the wifi passkey, it shows connection fail. Whichever method I use it shows connection fail. My printer model is HL-B2080DW. Even Air Print is not working. But WiFi direct does work along with USB too. I am at my wits end...

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

This was my error: unable to connect to ‘brother MFC-L2717DW._ipp._tcp.local.’ due to an error

The solution was ridiculously simple.

I created 3 separate networks home(2.4,5), 2.4, 5. 5 only accessible at close range. 2.4/home entire house.

I switched from 2.4 to home. Was able to cleanly finish the setup.

First you have to reinstall the Printer drivers and connect with WiFi and check Printer IP address on router page IF your IP Address is there so Come to your computer and Go to Control panel - printer and devices - and click on left top corner and click on Add devices and you will get your printer name over there and connect with that devices.

In most of the cases, people face brother printer won’t connect to wifi due to the incorrect username and password for the wifi. so you should check the password an encryption type first.

If you are still going through similar problem, you need to reset the network settings on your printer and then try to connect your printer again.

Printers are a headache if you don't know where to start. So here are some steps you can follow, depending on your printer:

1. First of all check if the printer has a small interactive screen, where you can navigate through a menu of some sort. If it does, look for an option that says 'setup wizard', then you have to follow the steps the printer gives you. You might have to choose setup wireless network after selecting setup wizard. Afterwards, you might get a screen with a list of wireless networks available, choose your home network (the one you use with your other devices in the house), then it will ask for your password, type it in (password is case sensitive, so be sure to type uppercase letter if needed). After that, you need to wait for a confirmation message saying you are connected to the network. The printer should work.

2. Check if you printer has a wifi button (it is a button that connects to a network automatically.) The button might have a small antenna image, or a wifi image. To use this button you will have to press the setup wireless button on you router/modem first. It should blink, if it does, then go to your printer, press the wifi button, and wait for it to link. If this works, you should get a confirmation message or the wifi button's light will go solid.

3. If your printer doesn't have either a screen or a setup wireless network button (wifi button or WPS), then you should have a usb cable attached to the printer and your computer for it to work. After you connect it, you should look for your printer's setup wizard in you computer in order to setup the wifi settings of the printer.

I just tried for the last couple of hours to connect my HL-5370DW (it's years old, with no WPS, but I love this printer!) wirelessly with our new cable provider router, as opposed to the router of the cable provider we had just left. I FINALLY succeeded!

TWO THINGS were vexing me when using the Setup wizard with a network cable.

FIRST, the printer wasn't being recognized when searching for available wireless devices. To solve this you need to RESET THE PRINTER'S NETWORK SETTINGS to the factory default. After the reset the Setup Wizard will recognize the printer. From the 55-page Quick Start Guide, p43:

1. Turn off the printer.

2. Hold down the GO button as you turn on the power switch. Keeping the GO button pressed, all the LED lights will light, and then the Status LED will turn off. Release the GO button. All the LEDs should now go off.

3. Press GO six times. All LEDs should light up, and then the printer will restart.

4. The printer will now be recognized.

SECOND, I was continually getting the "FAILED TO ASSOCIATE" ERROR MESSAGE after going through the connection steps (Note: As a guide I was following screen-captured instructions from the last time I had to do this with the previous cable provider).

In my case, the encryption mode for the WPA/WPA2 authentication method changed after getting the new router. Previously, the encryption method was TKIP. The new router, however, was AES. When I changed the encryption from TPIK to AES, the printer connected immediately and all was right with the universe!

I found out that the router needs to be set to include the WLAN standard 802.11b in order to connect the printer (HL-2135w) via WPS.

My router was set to 802.11g+n which is fine for printing via WLAN once the printer has received the credentials of the WiFi network. The router tells me that the printer is using 802.11g within the network.

But apparently the printers WPS mode is only working via 802.11b. When I set my router to 802.11b+g+n the first connection attempt was successfull.

HLL2390DW printer will not connect to the internet!

This is not a new problem. Three years ago, we had the same printer, as soon as we changed the toner cartridge, several weeks later it stopped working,. We could still copy on the printer, so it was working as a copy machine. We had to buy a new printer. Again, we bought Brother. Same thing again, after two years we bought a new toner, a couple of weeks later stopped working. After hours of programing…..no luck. When it was new, it set up so easy….is this a scam….the printer is obsolete after two years!!

We will not be buying Brother again!

Husband was a Brother dealer for many years! Disgusted!

Wireless printers work using a network connection, the steps to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi depends on the printer’s make. So, before you begin, read the instruction manual to continue.

Configure Internet on the Printer-

  1. Power on the Wi-Fi router and your laptop
  2. Power on your printer
  3. Go to your Brother’s printer Wi-Fi setup to connect it to your Wi-Fi
  4. Select the SSID of your Wi-Fi network
  5. Change your Brother’s printer default password from the printer and enter the Wi-Fi security password of your Wi-Fi.
  6. The light indication of the printer will come on confirming the printer is connected.

Check to see if you are trying to connect it to 5G. I decided to try the 2.4G and that was the fix I needed.(my router supports both)

My MFC-2701DW will not connect to 5G. I wish that information was given to me clearly from Brother. So, how I proceeded.

I did reset the network on the printer (option in the network section of the the printer)

Rebooted the printer.

Went into setup Network - WLAN(Wifi)

Found the SSID and entered it then it asks for the key, typed it it..it said connected right away.

If you need or want more info, ask here. I will try to pay attention to this thread.

Hope this helps someone.

My brother HLL3210CW printer suddenly fell off the network after several years. While trying to re-connect it would randomly see or not see the correct network but would not connect to it and return a message that it failed to connect. I am using a Netgear Nighthawk MK63 Mesh router system. The Brother printer requires a 2.4 Megahertz network which was available through the router but what I found was that with the router 2.4 Mhz in the AUTO setting for channel selection the printer would not connect. When I set the Channel selection to static setting to Channel 11 the printer connects immediately. Apparently the printer is very picky about what 2.4 Channel it wants. I did not try other channels to see if it would connect but Channel 11 works fine. Hope this helps some of you out there.
