Why won't my pull cord retract?

I tried to start my lawn mower and my pull cord remained extended after I tried to pull it. How can I fix this?

Try spraying WD-40 in the mechanism. You may be able to do it without taking it off the mower. It fixed mine'

Try jerking the cord a little harder a few times and it might retract again. If that doesn't work, please look at our pull cord replacement guide. See if you can find out where it might be stuck to have it retract again. If that is not possible then please follow our pull cord replacement guide and replace the pull cord completely.

cord will retract when not on mower but when installed will not retract after pulled

I have the same issue, I picked up the Cub cadet from a friend of mine. This mower is brand new no oil in the engine. It appears that something quite heavy fell on it

So I disassembled it and I'm in the process of replacing all the damaged parts. The pull cord assembly is just one of the parts. Its a brand new part.

It will work fine until I put the screws in it and tighten it down. I can pry it away from the back of the mower and it frees up.

Any idea what might be going on with it

It is also possible that the pull cord assembly is broken or jammed. You should take the assembly out and see whats causing the resistance.

I don't know how to take the assembly out. If I have to take it to lawnmower experts to sort out, is it costly?

Where can I buy a pull cord kit?

None of these answers help me with my problem. I have a brand new rip cord assembly which works perfectly when it’s off of the mower, as soon as I install it, the cord will not retract. What next???

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I have the same issue. New recoil which works when it is not installed. Once installed the cord will not retract.
