The Roomba 650 is a Fourth Generation robotic vacuum released by iRobot in August 2012. This device is hand-free and is programmed to clean our homes. With little manual operation needed, this robot have revolutionized house cleaning.

Why does Roomba 650 turn off before returning to charging station?

I programmed my Roomba 650 to clean at night, and it used to do its job, then return to its charging station. Lately, however, it has been ending its cycle somewhere else, like along a wall or in the middle of the room. I finally realized the other day that it wasn't finishing the job, it was dying before it got far from the charging station. How can I fix this? I'm not getting any error messages.

Hey Charles,

According to the Roomba 650 trouble shooting page there could be multiple issues with your roomba. 1) Your target station is too far away or 2) There is an issue with your batttery. To fix the first issue you should move your home station to a more central location. For the battery problem I would suggest cleaning the nodes on the battery first then start to think about buying a replacement battery. You should check out the troubleshooting page at

Try changing the battery. http://www.bestbatt.com/iRobot-Roomba-80...

Here's a rather poor but sufficient guide to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khIVzbaD...

There may also be an issue with the charging station.

My Roomba does not return to the charging station. When placed there manually, Roomba does not charge. Unplugging the charging station and charging Roomba directly works. I then reconnected the charging station to power and measured the voltage across the spring terminals. No DC voltage could be measured. I unplugged the charging station and cleaned the terminals with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol. No change in the measured results across the terminals.

Question: How do I dismantle the charging base? I managed to unsnap all but one centre retainer.

Has anyone serviced the charging base?

Thanks in advance.

A quick follow up...

I managed to open up the charging base. There is a 3rd fastener under the 'rubber' padding. You will need a long neck screwdriver to reach the head of the fastener.

The voltage I measured at the charging contacts is actually a steady 2.9 VDC. Does anybody know what a 'normally functioning' charging base should be outputting?

The Roomba battery is 14.4 VDC, so you should be measuring at least that much. The specs should be printed on the transformer.

Hi,

My brand new Roomba 980 suddently stops moving. No error code, no sound, all lights go off.

The app says it is still cleaning.

It makes a sound when I pick it up.

Any idea?

I’m having the same issue. Roomba 980 randomly stops. App says it’s still cleaning.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

the same for me and after while appication is saying i’m not on the same wifi as roomba. after manually switching on there is no entry in cleaning diary.

I rebooted it last night and so far today there hasn’t been any problems. It finally completed an entire cleaning cycle without randomly dying (and it always died about 60 mins into its first run in the morning) and it returned to home base to get charged. I’m crossing my fingers it’s resolved.
