PowerBook 12inch will not boot up at all

Hi, i have recently acquired a PowerBook 12 inch 1.5 GHZ Aluminum PowerBook.

however when you press the power button, you get a clicking sound from the optical drive but then nothing else, the battery is charging fine from the machine when the powerlead is plugged in, but the machine just refuses to start up, any ideas?

thanks

First try re-seting the PMU:

I suspect the HDD is faulty and the machine cannot find a valid operating system folder.

Firstly, check there is no disc in the DVD drive by attempting to start up while holding down the trackpad (mouse) button, this should eject any disc in the drive. Assuming no disc emerges, try booting from a 10.4 Tiger OS system disc, insert the OS disc and try to boot(start) while holding down the 'c' key, this asks the machine to boot from the DVD drive.

If you are in luck it will start up.

If not, take it to a competent repairer for an estimate...it probably needs a new HDD.

Normally, with just a dead HDD the computer would still boot, but display a "volume not found" question mark icon.

Did you read the start of the post? the machine does not power up so all the advise you have given ie checking to rom drive and trying to boot using the C key is irrelevant, read the start of the post...

To my mind the, your evidence that the CD drive is clicking suggests it MAY be searching for a boot volume in the CD drive as it cannot find one on the HDD.

I can understand your frustration with a broken machine, but your rudeness to someone who is trying to help you does you no credit.

As stated before all that happens is the drive clicks briefly and thats it, there is no bootup chime ..nothing. My post was not meant to be taken as rude, but is is frustrating when people clearly don't read the whole thread, I have had posts before where you end up going round in circles.
