Trying to disconnect the drive gear from a bullet blender?

I tried to uninstall the drive gear on the bullet blender. The screw in the base won't hold a screwdriver and the gear is too tight to get it off as the driver slips in the slot. Would like to know if anyone has a better technique to take it off for replacement.

Nick Steffen, I hear you. That was a bear to take it. You can disassemble the blender leaving the gear on. Then place the stator in a vise at the end where the slot for the screwdriver is. Use a pair of good channel lock or vise grips to take the gear of. It is easily possible that you will destroy the gear. Make sure you have replacements.
