MDD G4 power button flashes 5 times, fails to boot

I have a MDD single 1.25 MHz G4 processor that will not boot. Upon powering on, the audio clicks, and the power button flashes five times. A few seconds later the fan comes on full blast. Have tried reseating memory modules and video board.

No video. The battery is old. Have ordered a new lithium 3.6V battery; cannot reset PRAM via -Command-Option-P-R.

Yes could be the backup battery

other solutions- Could be bad ROM, bad/loose RAM, pushed the hard drive connector into the motherboard incorrectly, improperly seated optical drive. You could try a CUDA switch reset

Resetting the Cuda/PMU

  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Disconnect ALL cables from the computer, including peripherals and power.
  3. If possible, move the computer to a place where you are not standing on carpet.
  4. Open the case and ground yourself by touching part of the metal frame inside the computer.
  5. Find the Cuda or PMU button
  6. Press the Cuda or PMU button ONCE. Do not press the button more than once before starting the computer up again.
  7. Wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the cables you removed in step 2 and turn the computer on.
    • If the computer still does not respond after resetting the PMU, could be Logic Board.

If this answer is acceptable please return and mark it.

Good Luck,

N.

It appears you have a bad processor. If you have moved it please try reseating it.

The beep codes were revised in October 1999,[2] and have been the same since. In addition, on some models, the power LED would flash in cadence.

1 beep = no RAM installed

2 beeps = incompatible RAM types

3 beeps = no good banks

4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)

5 beeps = processor is not usable
