The Kindle Fire, Fire, or Amazon Fire is an Android-based media tablet by Amazon with a multi-touch color display. Repair requires only screwdrivers and prying tools.

My kindle fire screen is locked and won't rotate.

I tried holding the power button for 20 seconds and turning back on. It didnt fix the problem. The background changes each time I turn it on and the date and time are correct.

jareb, the first thing you wan to do is to see if it is locked. Tap on the little Settings icon in the top right corner of the screen, here you should see where you can lock and unlock the screen position. Unlock it and see what happens. Hope this helps, good luck.

It's under the font option now. Click on the layout tab under fonts. There is an option to lock the screen. Unlock it.

There is a rotate screen or lock screen option in settings. I promise it will work.

Thanks, feel kinda foolish. Remember seeing it, knowing it's function. Too many "bells & whistles" to keep track of.

If you tap the screen at the very bottom on the right hand side, a little lock icon will appear. Tap to unlock snd symbol will change accordingly.

I tried holding button down twenty seconds - no help. I don't see any settings icon in upper right nor anything to do with locking screen in “settings". What now?

There is a rotation controller I in the settings.display menu that the drop down page will not override. My out of warranty Gen 8, Hd8 has started automatically turning OFF auto rotation AND bummed up my display so that swiping is barely sensitive AND finger and stylus use puts a fine line grid on my display and cursive scribble line like some 2020 Apple and Samsung ,features. AND I refuse to follow Amazon services help prrsonal.that I MUST. Do a make work factory reset..it trade for a new unit..cost <> $180!!

Wish you all well. ps OT: the Twitter police permanently locked me out after I posted only THREE times..generic, tactful political suggestions. Shocking limitation on USA free speech. My state AG says they have no one policing Google, Twitter, etc arbitrary black listing innocent users…

Hold down the power button until it shuts down. Turn it back on holding it in the horizontal position. When it powers back on, keeping it in the horizontal position, look at the bottom of the screen and you will see the lock icon. Swipe the lock icon and “Wallah" your screen will now rotate. Hope this helped? DreamWeaver

Amazon Fire 8 HD. I understand this is for a Kindle fire but someone may stumble here like I did. Alright, if you find yourself in the situation where you simply cannot find the auto rotate button or lock or any of the settings workarounds, it is because your additional options are hidden. Stupid I agree. I don't even know how this was turned on. Just click through your available options (I wasn't aware that I was about to solve the problem so I don't know exactly, but you probably won't find this instructions elsewhere either). I think it is under device options, and then when you click additional options your screen may then rotate button you will see a litany of options that weren't previously available. Check the drop down menu now and the option will be there. THIS IS A STUPID FEATURE AMAZON. Lordy.
