iMac won't power on

Hi

I have a 2011 iMac i5 3.1 and recently purchased a UPS. The mac ran as normal for a few but suddenly went off while i was watching a movie. Now it won't turn on at all the 1st diagnostic LED is on (green) but when i press the power button nothing happens. If i hold down the button while plugging in the power and release it the fans spin at full speed but no other response from the mac please help! I have tried the SMC reset but still no joy. Any help/advice would be highly appreciated!

Thanks

Have you plugged the iMac into a straight outlet to rule out the UPS as you just got it (bad unit, right size & type). If you did then the issue has nothing to do with the UPS.

well? Did you diagnose the problem? Your description matches the issues I'm having to a T. Please advise if you had any success fixing the issue.

Hi yes plugged it direct in to the power socket still wont turn on not sure if its the power supply or the logic board

What happens when you press and hold the power button (hold it for a good minute). Do you get any reaction: fan running, clicks or bong?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

No reaction, the diagnostic LED just stays lit but if i hold down the power button while plugging in the power the fans run at full speed but thats it no other activity

First thing to do here, by what the diagnostic LEDS are telling you, is the power supply has failed. Personally I would go over it with a hot air gun or soldering iron. That failing, replace it.

But mine doesn't even light up no LED. . It only chimes when I press the power, the fans work, but nor the Led nor the screen light up. . What could it be? So I can be sure of what part to order. Thanks

Hook it up to an external monitor and tell us if you get anything on it.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

What type of cable is needed for that though?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

What monitor hook up do you have? and you really need to ask your own question as Dan stated.

@mayer how would you go about using a heat gun on the PSU? Time/temp/which areas etc.

Also - I have a 27" 2429 which has the proper serial number for the recall, but given that it's past the timeframe, Apple declined to replace the GPU under the program. Have you had success beyond the eligible timeframe and if so, any recommendation on going about it?

Thank you

Here is a rainy weather and my iMac did not turn on. After disassembling and assembling everything, I used the hair dryer to heat the logic board and power supply a little and it worked. Thanks God!
