iPhone 3G won't boot up?

I'm trying to fix this for someone and they said up until a day ago it was working fine now it won't boot up at all, it also won't show up in itunes at all

Could replacing the battery fix this issue?

I've opened it up and nothing appears to be damaged either

All it will do (even when plugged in) is show a black screen nothing lights up or appears to power on

This looks more like a software problem, you should restore the iPhone to fix it. If iTunes can't see the device, put it in DFU mode, when you'll connect it iTunes will ask you if you want to restore the phone.

Note that if you restore the iPhone you'll lose all the data you didn't backup.

Here it's explained how to enter DFU mode.

Let me know if it works.

Yeah I know how to do DFU mode and I've tried that but iTunes won't see it (I already said that) and I know that restoring wipes all the data.
