How to correctly solder power volume flex cable?

I have an ipod touch 4th generation and I recently tried to solder but I don't know if I did it right since the buttons continue to not work. At first when I tried soldering I formed a big clump of metal but then evenly separated them to their location. I don't know if that may have been the problem. I also did not use liquid flux. Help me out please.

Hey mate,

It depends on how well you soldered. If you cold soldered, a proper connection is not being made. If you bridged the connection (which it sounds like you may have). If you could provide a picture, this would help a lot.

Update

Hey Miguel,

A cold solder is when the two points you are attempting to solder together are not being heated up enough - only the metal that you melted from your solder got hot enough to melt, and the point you are trying to solder to did not melt. This will result in a very poor connection and generally, it not working. If you could post a picture, this would help.

What do you mean by cold soldering?
