Why won't my keyboard respond?

I had liquid damage to my A1226 Macbook Pro laptop, and had read that you could insert an A1260 keyboard into it (being cheaper and because they're both the Duo Models). Before with the defective keyboard, only a couple of keys would respond and one key was stuck down. But the trackpad and everything else worked fine.

I did everything carefully step by step and put the new keyboard in, and the backlight works, but the keyboard is unresponsive. Is there something I should be looking for that I may have missed, or did I just read the wrong information that it would be compatible?
