Sadly, this systems display received damage at its most fragile area along the hinge. The fact the chin plate was damaged tells us something was left sandwiched between the case and lid so when the person closed the lid the weaker chip plate cracked but the force was still strong enough to go deeper damaging either the ribbon cables or the interface between the ribbon cables and the glass LCD panel cracking the metal oxide traces that power the vertical columns of the panel.
