I had the same problem and it turned out that my ***SD card was a fake***. It only had a fraction of the indicated capacity and just stopped storing images after it ran full. The menacing thing was that there was no error message. The camera still thought it had successfully saved the images. You could even scroll through them on the camera display. However, after turning the camera off and on again, all new images were gone.
