Not sure if the setting is there but try either disabling ''sata native mode'' in BIOS and then install Win XP, or slipstream the [https://support.hp.com/au-en/drivers/hp-compaq-nc8430-notebook-pc/1839150|sata AHCI drivers] into the Win XP installation media
