I ran into the same issue after having had this for 5 years or so with mostly full toner (after replacement) and it was fine until I started putting it on wifi, then it would disconnect and now I have the same issue.  I now see to get a similar model will cost me $300!  I feel like we got HP hustled to buy new printers.
