I've had our French door LG fridg for 12+ yrs. the original Icemaker worked for 5 yrs. Stopped making ice, wouldnt cycle when test button pushed etc... Purchased replacement (#2)and kept old unit (#1) #2 lasted 4yrs and developed the same issue. For kicks I swapped #1 back in and IT WORKED . #1 spent 4yrs in the box. My suspicion was it has ice formed in the gear box and was frozen in position. Now when my ice maker stops making Ice; i swap in the dried out unit. After 3-4yrs swaping (and documenting changes) i now place the "frozen unit" on my forced air heater vent for 3 days , also added a bead of plumbers silicone grease to the seam where the drive shaft exits the drive box connects to the ice tray. My hope is this slows the moisture/humidity out of the drive mech. Over time the plastic wears /opens up as the movment over the years of making Ice. I'm tempted to fit an O-ring if the sealing out / silicone doesnt help. In the end I've only had to purchase 1 new LG Icemaker. but keep it on hand for when the installed unit freezes up. About 6-8 mths when not sealed. now 8-13mths of service with the silicone. Your Mileage my Vary but this has been my experience.
