When it stops what is the temperature in the freezer?
If it is 0°F (-18°C) then this is normal as it should turn off when the set temp is reached.
When it is off for a few hours, does it try a lot of times to start or perhaps only 1 or 2 times?
If a lot of times then it could be a faulty compressor start relay.
Disconnect the power to the freezer and then disconnect the start relay from the compressor motor and then ''gently, stress very gently,'' slowly shake it back and forth. If you hear it rattle it is faulty and needs to be replaced.
