If it is a 3.6L V6 it has hydraulic steering so it could be a problem with either the steering pump or a lack of hydraulic fluid due to a leak. Check the level of the hydraulic fluid in the power steering fluid reservoir. The reservoir is located toward the rear of the engine compartment on the passenger side of the vehicle.
