The keyboard and the touchpad stopped working on my MacBook, after it got some moisture (it was in my backpack when I got caught in the rain).
Trying to figure out what was the cause of the problem, I disassembled the MacBook. I looked at the motherboard and the battery, but didn't find anything that would catch my eye, and reassembled it back, but didn't use all the screws to make it easier to disassemble it again later.
Surprisingly, the computer started functioning normally.
After experimenting a bit, I found that if I unscrew the bolts in the lower right corner (1 that holds the battery, and 3 that hold the cover), it is working. If I put them back in, the keyboard and touchpad stop working.
Obviously, this is not right.
It seems to me that the ingress of water caused some hardware problems. Consequently, the keyboard block is activated by the software when I turn the computer on. But if I unscrew the bolts, some circuit opens, and that causes the removal of the block.
My questions:
1. Does anyone understand how all this can even be possible?
2. Do my conclusions make any sense?
3. Which parts are most likely to be defective: the battery, the keyboard controller, etc.?
4. How safe is it to use the computer without these bolts? Won't this cause something else to break down?
-
5. Any ideas on how I can fix this whole situation?
