My scooter goes into limp mode

I don’t know exactly what’s happening, but after riding for a little bit, maybe 5-10 minutes, my scooter seems to go into a sort of limp mode and won’t go faster than 6 mph. Going up hill I have to push and it will only go 2 or 3. It’s like it’s reducing power output by 70% or so. Any thoughts?
