There is a switch that indicates that the hood is open. This switch disengages the auto start/stop function. I for one have purposefully moved the switch such that my Jeep always thinks the hood is open. This causes the auto start/stop function to not stop and restart my engine every time I stop at a traffic light, etc. If you want the functionality of this "feature" check on the drivers side of the engine compartment. You should find a small plunger type switch that is depressed when the hood is closed. In your case it may have become dislodged or be not working correctly. Hope this helps.
