How to remove and replace an already broken screen?

I have an iPhone 7 Plus that overheats. I’m going to swap out the battery, however, the bottom left corner of the screen has a single crack running from left edge to bottom. I don’t want to replace the screen, it costs too much. Can I open the phone, replace the battery, and put the phone back together still? Or will the suction cup snap the screen? Thanks for your help!
