@mardi47720 anytime you have a partial failure of your touchscreen, you must consider a failed digitizer. On your phone it is "sandwiched" with the display assembly. That means you should replace it all at the same time. Since iFixit does not yet have a specific guide for this, use something like [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV2MFrmWC5c|this video] Once you opened the back cover, check the connector for your digitizer and make sure that it is fully seated. If it does not make full contact, you could have the same issues. If it is properly connected, proceed with changing the display assembly.
Replacement assemblies (screen) are readily available at many online stores. I suggest you get one that has the midframe already installed (that will be most of them). It'll make the repair easier.
While you work on your phone, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit.
