Factory Reset without access to original account

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

I was given an old Samsung Galaxy A12. I did a factory reset on the phone but it's still associated with the original owner - it's asking for their original code pattern rather than taking me to setup a new account as if it were a new phone.

I'm not familiar with this security feature. Presumably it's a theft deterrent but is there any way around it? I want a full factory reset without having to bug the original owner for his password.

Thanks
