I also had not recognized disk tried everything on internet bar replacing disk drive. It turned out to be something I had done when I cleaned the heat sink with air line . The ribbon on disk drive had popped out that sends signals to the CPU I felt like such a ninny but now works perfectly and quietly hope this helps someone because I found this very frustrating.
