I recently bought VERY cheap a 2018 MacBook Air, an unused wedding gift that showed no signs of life, it was completely forgotten about until rediscovered and listed as such, it was apparently never turned on and wouldn't charge or power up. I took the risk, replaced the battery, let it fully charge without any disturbance and it worked fine! Obviously the battery had completely discharged over the 5-6 years and also any power for the system clock had also drained as the date and time was at 2021.....

I recently bought VERY cheap a 2018 MacBook Air (A1932) complete in the box, an unused wedding gift that showed no signs of life, it was totally forgotten about until rediscovered and listed as such, it was apparently never used or turned on and wouldn't take any charge or power up. I took the risk, invested in it, replaced the battery, let it fully charge without any disturbance and it worked fine! Obviously the battery had completely discharged over the 5-6 years and also any power for the system clock had also drained as the date and time was at 2021.....
