connected and indicates its charging, HOWEVER, it's not charging?

-I connect my Magic Mouse 2 either, into my Macbook or powerbrick, with the switch in the on position to initiate charging, my Mac indicates it is charging by displaying a battery with a lightning bolt. However, the battery percentage does not increase. My mouse is 2+/- years old and I bought it directly from my local Apple store. Everywhere on the interwebs stalls me to "unplug it and replug it", "unpair the device", and " try turning it off and then on again" but these are CRAPPY suggestions and those people are idiots.
