Apple watch shorts when pressure is applied to battery terminal

I have an apple watch series 6 that was dropped and wouldn't turn on. I took it apart and disconnected and reconnected the battery and it worked fine, but when I went to screw on the plate over the battery terminal, it went black. I backed out the screw and it worked, so I thought perhaps it was the screw, but then I gently pressed down on the connector and it shorted again. So for some reason pressure on the terminal is causing it to short.
