My Dyson V8 is fried and shorted. It sparked and had a distinct smoke and burnt smell when i switched on the trigger. I opened it up today and still could not find the cause of the short. The motor windings are good and already taken out from the PCB. I am doubting the Mosfet M13C30 which I accidentally found online in youtube to be common fault for this particular model. I am unable to test it at the moment since it has a varnish coating and will try to remove it with acetone later to test if it is also shorted.
I tried poking on the capacitors and eventually removed a 35V 1500uF but it was good. I also tested the SMD R030 resistor and it showed 0.1-0.2 Ohms on my DMM which I am not sure if it is fine (i think it is probably okay as long as it is not open).
I also tested the 2 main terminals and could not verify that it is shorted. My DMM does not detect a short.
I want to buy a replacement motor assembly but hesitant to do it until i figured the cause of the fault of this simple board. The battery was also tested and found 24-25V output when triggered ON. I will try to clean the board with CRC cleaner and put it back and see if it works.
If it smokes then holy smokes I will buy a new motor assembly in Ali Express (probably taken out from other V8 but genuine).
