Unfortunately , the answer is to buy a new one. I'm quite the techy kind of girl and I completely dismantled my vacuum every screw every seal everything that could be removed. I did a spit shine and polish and still nada. So I ordered a new battery and charger. Voila, it worked....for another year. Now it lasts 10 seconds turns off and readily turns back on for increments of 3 sec. It will keep turning on indefinitely for 3 sec each time so the battery is not dead. Again Ive disassembled the entire machine. Nothing is stuck, nothing is plugged. Its cleaner inside than when I bought it. I'm NOT investing another $100 in a new battery. I'm investing in a Bissell stick, a name wayyyy older than Dyson
