@chrisbickley Since we can't see your circuit boards, this is hard to point out. It does sound like an issue with the backlight circuit. Most cameras have a backlight fuse as well as a power fuse. Do check on your camera PCB's for any "odd looking" component. Then post some pictures of what all of that looks like, with your Question.

@chrisbickley it sounds like an issue with the backlight power. You said you repave the LCD screen and the Driver board but you did not tell us what you are referring to as the driver board. This could easily be an issues with a DC-DC converter. Check the Backlight (BL) connector on the main board as well as on the LCD connector for DC power.
