I found there is a trick to change the batteries with the camera switched on. At least with my unit. What worked for me was taking the batteries out and putting them back on WHILE pushing the ON button. Push the button all the way down and keep it pressed while you take out the batteries and put them back in. Should be good qualuty new batteries.
