I believe this can be done, but it is not a user friendly process. Just getting into the camera assembly to remove one of the individual bits is quite difficult (ask me how I know) and the cameras themselves are delicate.

Replacing the whole assembly is much easier. I have also not seen just an individual camera sold. Front camera apart from the True Depth assembly, yes. But not individual camera within the rear assembly.
