Sony CRE-E10 charging case - problems charging earbuds

I recently got these OTC hearing aids, and the work great… except that the left ear bud does not always sit properly in the charging case. Seems like a small alignment issue with the electrical contacts. Anyone have any ideas as to how this can be fixed? The case looks imposible to open.
