Lid not closing all the way

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

Hi,

About a week ago the lid started not being able to close all the way (it started with one side not touching and then both). I assumed it was a battery swelling problem because this has happened once before, so I removed the battery. But unlike my first battery problem, the lid still couldn't close even without the battery inside.

A couple days later the lid still can't close so I assumed it might be a hinge problem. Waited a week for tools to ship, then tested out the hinges. The hinges were tight, so I took out all the screws and the lid was finally able to close. I put the screws back in one by one, and it turns out that tightening any of the three screws on the right side too much caused the lid to rise.

I tightened them as much as I could without causing deformity, reassembled the laptop back together, everything looked good, and the lid closed properly. But when I opened it there was a small cracking sound (coming from where the right hinges were), and when I tried to close the lid it returned to the original problem. I repeated the same thing, fixing all the hinge screws again and the laptop easily closed. Right now it's staying closed just fine but I haven't tried opening it.

This seems like something's wrong with the screws but I'm not sure what to do. (I do wonder if waiting a week for tools allowed for even more warping to occur.) Does anyone have any advice or experience with this?

Thanks.
