Janky modification for battery indicator board

Hi Guys!

I was recently given this MacBook Pro by a family member who had it lying around. It was in pretty good shape, other than the random stickers on it and the battery indicator button was jammed in the case. Opening it up (a very refreshing exercise compared to the modern plastic-clipped laptops of today!), I found the problem was that the foam around the button on the battery indicator board was very smushed down. I didn't know how to fix this, so I took a piece of newspaper and jammed it between the battery indicator board and the SATA connector on the HDD (see images). My question is, is this safe? The paper isn't touching any circuitry, and I don't think it's putting much pressure on the SATA connector. I just wanted to check, as it would be bad if I ruined something by doing this.
