Edge of motherboard damaged by screwdriver, now won’t power on.

A customer of mine attempted to replace his own internal laptop battery and now it won’t power up in any way.

When taking the bottom cover off, I found that a hinge support screw was loosened that was partially below the edge of the motherboard causing a circular gouge in the motherboard.   At closer inspection, I saw several layers of copper traces along the gouged edge.  See photos below.

Would important traces be this close to the edge of the PCB that carry current to the CPU, etc.?  Is this likely the cause of the power failing to turn on?   (If so, obviously a new motherboard would be needed to be replaced, not worth the older laptop.)
