@nathanbutk92911 could be a few things. First off, it might be teh battery. Just because it is new to you does not mean it's a new one. Keep one thing in mind. The battery connector on this model is an absolute Achilles Heel. It has such a bad tendency of breaking of the board. Take a look at this question about what that looks like [post|70950].

If the connector is okay, connect your iPad to a wall charger instead of a computer. Sometimes the extra available amperage helps to wake the battery up. An iPhone or iPad wall charger will be perfect but any other USB "brick" will work, for as long a it has no more than 5V.

Try a different charging/sync cable and double check the dock connector (bottom of the iPod where the cable connects too. Check for corrosion, debris and bend/broken pins.
