Sony PS2 fat console grind noises with blue discs only

Recently bought a PS2 SCPH-39001 fat console at a yard sale. Came home, turned it on and it worked just fine on the regular silver back cd's. I then popped in a blue back disc and the drive started to maker loud noises and even grinding noises.

Then I get cannot read disc error. I also had an issue with a PS1 game, the same loud grinding noises happened for a black colored PS1 game. But I put in another PS1 with a black back and it worked just fine.

I went ahead and opened it up, cleaned it, cleaned the laser, made sure the rods were lubricated. Same exact issue. I then replaced the laser, same exact issue. So that would toss out the whole adjustment on the back of the laser because the same issue happens with different lasers?

Do you think the spindle needs to be replaced? Any suggestions. I saw a video about putting tape on the game disc, but I cannot accept a solution like that. I watched the laser move up and down and no issues, no loud noises, no grinding etc.

But when the CD starts spinning up, that is when the loud grinding noises happen and again, with just the blue disc, silver discs work perfectly fine. But also confused about the PS1 games, as I played 2 of them, both with black color backing. One worked just fine, the other same issue as the blue back.

This PS2 still had the warranty sticker intact, did not look like it was opened until I opened it. Any ideas? Im thinking the spindle motor needs to be replaced.
