I haven't had occasion to try it yet, but there's something called a battery activation board you can buy that's supposed to do exactly what you need in order to reuse the BMS. This is the one I bought.

The other thing I've seen in videos is some odd requirement that you have to put in an aftermarket battery into the phone and get the non-genuine battery warning, then when you put the replacement battery with the original BMS it supposedly works.
This is all based on my reading as I've been trying to keep up on this stuff since my family all has iPhones and most of them have models newer than the iPhone X, which all have paired batteries.
Maybe some of the guys on here who do this for a living can chime in and confirm or deny anything I've said.
