Not knowing exactly what "...every button-pressing-reset hack posted in Sony manuals and in online forums." entailed try the following and check if either one works.
i). Try the procedure as outlined in ''Initialize Mode'' on p.32 of the [document|32435|service manual].
-ii). This one worked on my old Sherwood receiver which showed an unknown error code when turning on, presumably due to a software glitch.

-Disconnect the power to the device and then ''press and hold'' the Power button operated for a full minute and then release it. Reconnect the power and check if it turns on OK. It seemed that just disconnecting the power was not sufficient, regardless for how long. You had to drain the power from the systemboard for it to reset.
