Loud knocking sounds could be caused by a few things e.g. faulty condenser fan, faulty evaporator fan, faulty compressor etc even ice chunks falling off the evaporator unit during the auto defrost cycle.

Enter the ''system diagnostic mode'' as described by the sheet, and then individually activate all the components, one at a time, that have moving parts e.g. fans, compressor, auger motor, solenoids and valves.

Hopefully by doing it this way you can isolate which component is making the noise when you manually activate it and then the noise ceases when you deactivate it.
