Why did the pins come off my display cable?

I brought in my iPhone XS Max for a battery replacement, but they told me the pins on the cable connecting the True Tone display to the motherboard came off and stuck to the motherboard. So, they had to replace it with an aftermarket OLED screen without True Tone. Does this happen often?
