Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop's Thunderbolt USB-C port and check the display on it coming from the laptop. You will need a Thunderbolt port adapter e.f. Thunderbolt to DP or Thunderbolt to HDMI etc to connect to most monitors or even a TV. Don't forget to toggle the relevant special function key (5th from the left on the top row) to switch the display from laptop screen only, to external screen only to both on together.
