My N64 powers on but no A/V

-My N64 will power on but I get no A/V. I haven't used it in a few months but, the last time I used it, it worked fine. It's connected to a newer TV so I have a VGA/HDMI converter which was used last time it worked. I have tried swapping the VGA cable with another I have, tried different games in case the one I wanted to play was the problem, tried cleaning the expansion pack and cartridge slot, and various other tips and tricks I have found on here. Nothing works. Am I SOL and need a new system?
