Seems as though the battery in the player is faulty or there's a loose internal connection somewhere.
Since it is new, contact the seller through Ebay, about the problem and ask for a replacement or a refund.
If they don't answer or refuse, then escalate the problem to Ebay to get your money back. It's always better to try the seller first as then Ebay can see that you tried to get it resolved with the seller to no avail.
You may be able to fix it by replacing the battery by opening it up (there's a small screw in the cap at one end) to find the battery model number printed on the battery or check if there's any faulty connections etc, but I suggest that you initially don't do this as it will void any guarantee/warranty claim.
