I did a myriad of things but these 3 in this order worked for me.[br]
1. installed the touchpad driver from acer.com in compatibility mode and selected Win 8.[br]
2. rebooted and pressed F2 to get into the bios. Reset bios to default and on the Main Tab selected Basic for the touchpad[br]
3. Pressed F10 to save and exit, and when I got into Windows my mouse was moving.

The only caveat is, I cannot scroll. In my reading I believe that will only work when I switch it to Advanced but when I do, the touchpad stops working again.
