Pixel 6 pro fingerprint sensor timeout after screen replacement

I have just finished replacing the screen on my Pixel 6 Pro. Everything went smoothly following the instructions. After powering on, however, i cannot use the fingerprint sensor.
It tells me to visit g.co/pixel/fingerprintunlock which i do and after the intro it immediately shows me "Fingerprint setup timed out. Can't use fingerprint sensor. Visit a repair provider or g.co/pixel/fingerprintunlock. I've done a restart as well as removed the existing fingerprints in my phone. No luck.
