Does it happen when turning left or right more than when driving straight?
If so it could be a faulty CV joint although it is usually more of a clicking sound than a clanking sound.
If when driving straight it could be a wheel bearing although this is usually more of a grinding or moaning sound then a clanking sound.
Do the car wheels have hub caps (wheel covers?), in the centre of the wheel covering the wheel nuts? If so have you checked that all the wheel nuts on that wheel are secure and that one is not rattling around in the hub cap?

have you checked under the car to see if anything is lodged in the back of the wheel etc that may be making the noise when the car is moving?
