@edwardwendt sounds like either a bad touchpad or a bad connection. Start by uninstalling your driver and then update/reinstall the touchpad driver. If that does not work, time for a teardown. Use something like [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v-OX6a2mhU|this video] as a guide. It appears as Acer considers the touchpad as part of the top cover/palmrest. I have not found it to be available as a separate unit.
